Introduction to Colonization of Africa

This is a brief, and at times very graphic, introduction to the colonization of Africa.  In particular, this excerpt outlines the historical origin of a conflict in the African nation of Uganda.  Like any film, it expresses the biases of its creators.   As you know now, Things Fall Apart is an exploration of the colonization of Nigeria by the British.  Watch the film and be ready for a writing prompt in class (specifically, a comparison of things discussed in the video and things explored in the novel).

Remember, make sure you are taking short breaks to exercise or refresh your mind while studying for finals.  Be sure to get enough sleep!  Eat healthy foods so that your brain works at an optimal level!  And, last but not least, remember to BREATHE and relax; you will be okay.  Give a good effort and see what happens.

The French and Indian War

Obviously, the French and Indian War involved Native Americans and European nations.  Based on the reading, In two paragraphs, please discuss some of the advantages that the French enjoyed over the British, as well as some of the advantages the British had over the French.

Penn’s “Holy Experiment”

William Penn is credited with establishing the first colony in North America which tried to allow people of all religions not only the freedom to practice their faith, but also the ability to serve in government.  Of course, the government at that time (the late 17th century) was not the same as the government that the United States has now because the United States had not been established yet.  Still, Penn’s colony had an enormous impact on the way that people thought about government and religion. In what ways was Penn’s Holy Experiment similar to most modern governments of today?
